Monthly Archive for February, 2006

end

Agora week is over and done. Obviously, it was pretty awesome. It wasn’t quite as relaxing as I had hoped though. I didn’t exactly get ahead on my schoolwork either, although I didn’t really expect to.
I’ve successfully implemented Newton’s method in Mathematica. (one of the intern application problems.)

I’ve also been busy working on by websites… Pretty cool stuff.

valentine’s day

Of course, nothing all that special happened today.
Math and Japanese tests tomorrow. Pretty uncool.
Good news is, I have a new sweatshirt!

ie7

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 has been on public release for a while, and it’s quite nice. ActiveX, the most glaring security hole in IE 6 and below, is now off by default. RSS capabilities are similar to Safari’s (renders RSS feeds as a webpage), which I prefer to Firefox’s Live Bookmarks. It is worth mentioning the Firefox extension Feedview, which gives Firefox this capability. Apparently this is going to be added to the browser by version 2, happily enough. (Why doesn’t Camino have any sort of RSS support anyway?)
IE7 also fixes the PNG32 alpha transparency issue, which is probably the most visible thing in my opinion. Some CSS improvements too, but nothing too impressive; IE7 is probably a long way from passing Acid2. There’s also the nice addition of an Opera-like zoom feature, something still lacking from Firefox.
Also, check out the new back/forward menu. Instead of having 2 drop-downs, one for forward and one for back, it i all in a single menu, which is actually very clever.
Even though it is still far from standards-compliant, IE7 is a vast improvement over 6, with tabs and other all around improvements. It’s hard to say where it stands with respect to Firefox, but it will probably discourage people from switching away at current rates.
