First day of school was fine, only real homework was Calculus, and even that didn’t take very long.
Here’s a photo of my sweet new setup; as always, click for a larger version. I did a little resizing and stuff cause I messed up some settings on the camera.

School starts tomorrow. I suppose it probably won’t be too bad, but still it’s always depressing to have the summer end. I guess got a surprising amount of work done, although I didn’t practice very much for math contests.
Righty. Disorientation picnic was pretty fun, though nothing much out of the ordinary. I went to Luke’s yesterday afternoon and watched some Yakitate Japan! and played some Magic (which I haven’t done in a while). After dinner I ended up at Justin’s house (one of my friends from Jefferson) and played some 6-man Halo 2. Team King of the Hill is pretty awesome in…. that one level that I forgot the name of.
Also, forums are up, hosted by InvisionFree since Invision itself no longer offers a free version of its software. (InvisionFree uses Invision Board 1.3, which was freely released.) Join if you’re so inclined.
Got a new bottle of valve oil and some Slide-O-Mix at the Music Shoppe today after my haircut. I’ve somehow played the trombone for 3 years without buying any sort of slide cream stuff. This seems to work really well though. I’ve also found a pretty cool solo to play, although 3 of the 5 movements are pretty far out of my reach for the time being. I seem to be woefully unprepared for IMEA this year (only doing euphonium this year), but it is the hardest of the three pieces that they cycle through. I’m still pretty worried about the scales too though. I guess I’ve still got around 2 months to practice.
So I’m back from Maryland. I went to see the University of Maryland, Carnegie Mellon, and Johns Hopkins while I was out there. All of them seemed to be pretty nice schools. University of Maryland was fairly similar to the U of I both physically and academically; the campus was very nice but also a bit large. Their stadium is way bigger than Memorial stadium though. Carnegie Mellon seemed like a strong technical school, but it seems like it might be a bit too focused, more of a graduate school-type atmosphere. Campus was also a bit small, but it was in a nice part of Pittsburgh. Johns Hopkins was having a lot of construction. The downtown Baltimore campus is separate from the renowned medical school. The arts department is also at a separate location. This separation made the selection of classes on campus a bit limited.
Ugh, this has reminded me that school starts in a week. I still need to finish A Hope in the Unseen too….
Drove up to New York yesterday to see SPAMalot. The show was really good on the whole, only one of the original cast members wwas gone, replaced by Alan Tudyk of Firefly fame. Tickets were in the very last row in the balcony, and had to be bought in March, so we were pretty lucky to go. Did have to spend at least 9 hours in the car though. NYC traffic is murder when you try and leave town at 5. Anyway, I’m up to Pittsburgh for a few days now.
I’m going to be in Maryland (via BWI via Detroit via Willard) until the 16th visiting my dad. I might post something from Maryland, but don’t count on it.
Ok, apparently iTunes Music Store Japan is open. So, I open up iTunes on advice from Engadget comments or something and find that Anime and J-Pop are now top-level genres in the store. And there are artists listed under them.. Of course, no albums show up under these artists, since the songs are Japan-only. (You need a Japanese address and credit card.) Does this crossover happen for other countries’ music stores? I haven’t noticed it before.
